This weekend we saw some major surprises in the Premier League. Some favorites failed to win and some massive underdogs made historic wins. The title race has become even more interesting.

West Ham 2 Manchester City 1

The biggest surprise of the round happened on Saturday. West Ham proved that at the Upton Park, they can beat anyone. That exactly happened against Manchester City, the defending champions of the Premier League and one of the biggest candidates for winning the trophy again. Before this game, the Citizens were on the 2nd place, behind Chelsea and were under a lot of pressure to keep up with them. It seems as the pressure and fatigue (a few days earlier they had played a Champions League game with CSKA, in Moscow) had caught up with them, which is why they played poorly against the Hammers.

West Ham started the game in the 5th gear, which paid off in the 21’, when the French midfielder, Amalfitano managed to put the ball into the Manchester City net. 1-0 West Ham was the score at the half time and at that point it seemed the Citizens were going to turn the game around. However, in 75', Sakho made it 2-0 West Ham. Two minutes later, David Silva scored the only Man City goal in the game, making the final score 2-1 West Ham.

Liverpool 0 Hull City 0

The same day, another surprise followed. Last season’s Premier League runner-ups, Liverpool failed to score against Hull at the Anfield. The Reds’ fans find Mario Balotelli’s poor form as the reason why their team has been playing bad this season. The Italian superstar has played 7 Premier League games this season and is still without a goal to his name.

Southampton 1 Stoke 0

Southampton continued their nice run and are now on the 2nd spot on the Premier League table with only 4 points less than Chelsea. This Saturday, they won against Stoke 1-0. The only scorer was Sadio Mane, in 33’. Soton totally dominated the match and it’s a bit of a surprise the result wasn’t even more in their favor. Still, they managed to keep the clean sheet, which makes their defense the best in the Premier League. Southampton have allowed only 5 goals so far, which is the league’s best.

Sunderland 0 Arsenal 2

Alexis Sanchez has once again proved his €42.5M was worth every cent. The ex-Barça striker was the man of the match with 2 goals scored. The first one happened at the half hour mark and the second was scored in the final moments of the match. This win brought the Gunners back into the title race. They’re now on the 5th spot, which can change easily.

Manchester United 1 Chelsea 1

The biggest match of the round was, without any doubt, the clash between Manchester United and Chelsea, some of the richest clubs in the world. Both teams were without their crucial attackers – Man Utd were without Falcao, while Chelsea missed Diego Costa.

We saw a fierce fight in the first period, but no goals. The opener happened in 53’, when Didier Drogba used the assist of Cesc Fabregas to give Chelsea the lead. That was the sign for the Red Devils to go all in. At the closing minutes, the Man Utd pressure paid off. Van Persie was the scorer in the 94’, a minute after Branislav Ivanovic got sent off.

Tottenham 1 Newcastle 2

The same day, Newcastle won their 2nd Premier League victory this season. This time, they defeated Tottenham, at the White Hart Lane. The magpies came into the game as massive underdogs as their form has been rather poor this season. And it seemed the bad run was going to continue. Adebayor brought the Spurs the lead in the 18’. 1-0 Tottenham was the result at the Half Time. However, the 2nd half, brought a huge surprise. Sammy Ameobi and Ayoze Pérez turned the game around, making the Final Score 2-1 Newcastle.

The Rest

This weekend, West Bromwich Albion played draw with Crystal Palace. Everton beat Burnley 3-1 in an away game. QPR were victorious against Aston Villa, beating them 2-0. The same result happened in Wales, where Swansea beat Leicester City.

Next Week

Next Sunday, we’ll witness the Manchester Derby, in which Manchester City will welcome Manchester United. Another interesting duel will be played the same day as Aston Villa will try to stop their bad run with a win over Tottenham.

On Saturday, Chelsea will try to get back on the winning track with a win over QPR. Hopefully, their key attacker, Diego Costa will be fit for the game. Southampton, who are on the 2nd spot on the table, will do their best to get even closer to Chelsea, with a win over Hull City.
