Bad News for Lakers at the NBA Season Opener

After more than 5 months, the regular NBA basketball is back in our lives. The new season started with 3 dramatic matches. In a Texas derby, San Antonio Spurs played a heart-stopping duel with Dallas Mavericks, which the defending NBA champions won by only 1 point. The final score was 101:100. Anthony Davies was simply brilliant in the New Orleans win over Orlando Magic. He scored an amazing 26 points for the Pelicans, together with 2 assists. Los Angeles Lakers lost, rather expectedly, to Houston Rockets by 108:90.

However, the defeat isn’t worrying the Lakers as much as the injury of their rookie Julius Randle, who broke his leg in that game. This summer, the Lakers fans were really excited when Randle joined the team. He had been selected with the seventh pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and was the only LA Lakers pick for the new season. Randle was supposed to be one of their key men this season, but it seems he’ll be sidelined for at least a couple of months.

The injury happened when Houston were leading comfortably, 7 minutes before the end of the match. Randle was struggling to get a better position than Donatas Motiejūnas, when he tripped over, hit Tyler Blake accidentally, before falling down. His teammates are hopeful of a fast recovery, but as it happens, they’ll have to do without him for a while. We’ll see in a few days how the absence of Randle will affect their performance. The next opponents of LA Lakers are Phoenix Suns.
