The Highest-Earning Athletes in 2014

According to the Forbes magazine, the richest sportsmen in the world this year is the American professional boxer, Floyd Mayweather. The five-division world champion, who is still without a single defeat in his professional career has earned $104M in 2014. Mayweather, who has 26 knockout wins out of 47 total, has left Cristiano Ronaldo behind, on the second place of the biggest earners in sport.

The winner of the Golden Boot and the biggest star of Real Madrid, has earned $80M, almost $8M more than LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers star, who came in third.

The biggest rival of Cristiano Ronaldo and the most valuable soccer player in the world, Lionel Messi, is the number 4 on the list as his earnings this year reached nearly $65M. Just behind the Barcelona legend, came another NBA player. Kobe Bryant earned $61,5M.

Tiger Woods, the golfer who had been the world’s richest athlete in the past, is this year’s number 6. The earnings of the golf legend in 2014 are just above $60M.

It seems being good in soccer pays off, as among the top earners are also Zlatan Ibrahimović ($46M), Gareth Bale ($36M), Neymar ($33M), and Radamel Falcao ($35M).

The richest Formula 1 drivers this year have been Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, who have earned $33M and $32M, respectively.

Among female athletes, the highest earner in 2014 was Maria Sharapova, a Russian tennis player, who has earned nearly $25M this year.
